Hemorrhoids Symptoms: How long to last

A exact explanation of hemorrhoids is hard to find, but they can be expressed as heaps or cushions of tissue within the anal canal that contain blood vessels are vascular structures in the anal canal which help with stool control. They become piles when swollen or inflamed. Although most people think hemorrhoids are dangerous but if you notice Hemorrhoids Symptoms at early stage, it can be cured even without any surgery. It is only when the haemorrhoidal cushions enlarge that hemorrhoids can cause problems and be considered abnormal or a disease.

Occurrence of hemorrhoids

Though they happen in everyone, now do hemorrhoids go away on their own? They become large and cause problems in only 4% of the universal population. There is no gender difference, Hemorrhoids can occur in both men and women equally. It mostly inflame to peaks between 45 and 65 years of age. Recognize the Hemorrhoids Symptoms at initial stage consult doctor as soon as possible and avoid more damage.

What are the Symptoms?

There are two types of hemorrhoids, external and internal, which are differentiated by their position with respect to the dentate line, the pectinate line or dentate line is a line which divides the upper 2/3s and lower 1/3 of the anal canal.

Hemorrhoids are generally caused with itching, rectal pain, rectal bleeding. Other Symptoms include mucous discharge or the loss of regular control of the bowels. In most cases, symptoms will resolve within a few days. External hemorrhoids are painful, while internal hemorrhoids usually are not unless they become necrotic.

The skin irritation may be caused by the inflammation of the external hemorrhoid which in turn leads to a just noticeable watery discharge and skin irritation.

Internal Hemorrhoid

Internal hemorrhoids are those that occur above the dentate line. Particularly, they are varicosities of veins exhausting the territory of branches of the bigger rectal arteries. As this area requires pain receptors, internal hemorrhoids are generally not painful and most people are not aware that they have them. Internal hemorrhoids, but, may bleed when stressed. Untreated internal hemorrhoids can lead to two severe forms of hemorrhoids such as prolapsed and strangulated hemorrhoids.

Blue Waffles Info

The existence of Blue Waffles

Some STDs other than blue waffles do not cause any symptoms, which increases the probability of their spread and reduce treatment. Signs that indicate disease in women: an unpleasant odor or vaginal discharge, pelvic pain, burning and itching, vaginal bleeding outside of menstruation, pain in the vagina while having sex. In men, a discharge occurs from the genitals. In both sexes, a person may experience blisters or ulcers in the mouth and near the genitals, burning and pain while passing urine, swelling in the groin, fever.

Prevention of contracting STDs consists of a number of measures, ranging from complete abstinence in sexual relations to the regular use of condoms which, besides protecting against unwanted pregnancy, successfully prevents the transmission of STDs.

It is also recommended sexual intercourse with one, faithful partner to prevent the blue waffles disease. Lots of sex partners, “one night stand”, sex with a stranger, a relationship without condoms, and early entry into sexual relations – are risk factors whose removal successfully protects against STDs. There are also regular medical check-ups for men and women, regardless of the presence of signs of disease.

Organic – and what`s behind

Organic fruits, vegetables, organic meat, organic eggs… Does the label `organic` really tell us that`s the healthy choice? Or is it just another marketing tool? How to choose when doing grocery-shopping? What to do if we want to eat healthy, organically grown food?

“Our hens are fed on a natural organic diet and free to roam on the organic pastures of Irish farms”

This is a sentence taken from a supermarket chain`s organic eggs` case. Our grandparents would look at this quite surprised, asking “What`s the big deal? Why would you write something like that? Isn’t it normal, that the hens roam on the fields?” Well, nowadays roaming hens ARE a big deal. Although there are countries even these days with farmers and private gardeners who would still ask the same question, as using natural things and feeding animals with natural food are considered normal for them.

The organic farming as we use the term now started around 70 years ago, and was a response to the industrialization. There was nothing wrong with the idea, namely to provide fruits, vegetables free from pesticides and meat free from hormones and antibiotics. Unfortunately things are not that easy though, I mean it is not totally safe when choosing the organic products in stores, however, they are quite costly. The problem is that the “heavy” regulations are quite permissive and more than that, they do not have the same guidelines in every country. This means, we cannot be sure when buying organic products, and paying a fortune, that we eat something totally free from artificial additives, pesticides, growth hormones, genetic manipulation.

At the beginning there were small farms (and there still are), who even without any certification provided organic fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy products. As the demand on these products grown, the big supermarket chains responded with establishing organic division within their large corporate farms.

Two main things happened after that step:
1. Genuine farmers, providing real organic crops, found themselves in an unpleasant and unfair situation, namely that their fruits, vegetables and meat became too expensive, as the large corporations were able to beat their prices.
2. The same large corporations became the ones who wrote the “tough” regulations in terms as what it is considered as being organic. Of course in their favour. And of course not necessarily excluding everything artificial.

Sometimes people think that we do need all that artificial food production as there are too many people on the Earth and not enough fields and farmers. That is not true. Do you know how many unemployed farmers are in the world, in your country? Those people, those farmers, who would produce genuine organic food without any regulations, are the ones who are left out and forced in an unfair situation. And what is this all for? Only one thing: profit! If you think about your country, about its climate and the fruits and vegetables which can be easily grown, then going to the store and finding those vegetables and fruits brought from the other side of the world, then you understand what I`m talking about. And at the same time big supermarket chains throw in the bin tons of fruits and vegetables every day, which are “expired” by their label, though they are totally nice and good to eat. They don`t give them to homeless people, the staff is not allowed to take them home… So let`s just not talk about need and about not enough food in the world…

Going back to organic. What can you do if you are concerned about your health and environmental effects of the industry? Let`s see:

1. If you are that lucky that you have small farmers around you, in the city you live in, then buy fruits, vegetables, meat from them.

2. If you do your grocery-shopping at supermarkets, make the decision by your pocket. If you feel like buying organic fruits and vegetables, do that. But if you want to save money, buy the regular ones, as the big store`s organic products are not really what you expect them to be. The most important thing is to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, mainly in their raw form, so bare this in mind, and disregard the `organic` label in the big supermarkets.

3. As for meat, eggs, dairy products in supermarkets: Here I would still go for the organic ones, as the tones of antibiotics and growth hormones they use in animal farming are a huge danger to our health. So even if the regulations for organic production are permissive, you will still get much less `poison` choosing the organic options. Of course if you can afford to buy them, as they are really expensive.

4. If you really want to take care of your health in the long run, and of the next generations` health, you should become a conscious consumer and think a bit outside the box. If you do your shopping at small farmers (if there are any where you live), if you choose the fruits and vegetables grown in your own country, if possible, then you help the real organic farming survive, and we may get to the point where without the regulations we still eat only natural, healthy, organically grown food.

I found this site recently: The abbreviation stands for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (living, learning, sharing organic lifestyles). If you like travelling, and are curious about healthy, organic farming, and also if you are not afraid to work 4-5 hours per day in exchange for food and accommodation, then have a look at this site. You can easily learn a bit about the organic lifestyles and maybe become a more conscious consumer in the future.

There are enough resources in the World. If we want to care about our, and about next generations` health, we have to become conscious consumers, even without visiting a farm. We have to make genuine organic farming survive. It is all up to us!

The Joy of Generic Soft Drinks

It doesn’t take much to bring joy to my life. Sometimes as a matter of fact, it is nothing more than realizing that something as simple as generic soft drink can really make a difference. There have been at least two instances in my life where generic soft drink has brought joy and in all three cases, I will be the first to admit that I could not have seen it coming.

When I was a college student, money was tight. It wasn’t only tight for me, but for my entire family as they were trying to be sure I could get through college. I drank a lot of iced tea and water during those years to save money. While home on Christmas vacation, I always tried to help out as much as I could with household bills and chores. So, one day I went shopping for a few groceries and decided to splurge on a 12-pack of store brand soda. My family was elated that night as we all sat around eating popcorn and drinking a generic soda. Something so simple had became a true treat in our household and created a very holiday like environment.

After that instance, I often wondered if the impact would have been different if I had been able to afford Coke or Pepsi instead of the generic soft drink. More recently than my college years, I was at a family reunion. Everyone was enjoying the beautiful day, the children were running around playing, and it was really a good time. Not being the cook of the family, I was asked to bring a variety of beverages. I brought iced tea, lemonade, and a few cases of generic soft drink for everyone to share. The true joy of deciding on the generic brand was during the clean up later that day. Children being children, they open soda and wander off to play. As I cleaned up can after can of half full generic soda, I couldn’t help, but feel smug that I hadn’t paid more money for what was about to be poured down the drain.

Life is what we make it. It isn’t about money or the top brand of every item we see. Instead, it is about making due with what we have and can afford. For me and my family, that has sometimes meant generic soft drinks and I only hope that my children will one day find joy in something so simple.

Gaarrr an Teed Cajun Tastes

The Cajuns originated in the South of France, emigrated to Nova Scotia, and then were displaced in the mid-1700’s by the British, many of them migrating to Louisiana.  So, Cajun cooking is really French country cooking, embellished with American ingredients.  The large French population in Louisiana embraced the Arcadians, and the culture was one of fishing, trapping, and farming.  Many recipes simply include what is available, often game or fresh seafood.  The seasonings feature File powder (sassafras), parsley, bay leaves (American bay laurel), cayenne and black pepper with a variety of other hot or sweet peppers.

Jacques Gaspard, Real Cajun Recipes, and the original chef Paul Pruhomme, a Cajun descendant, books and recipes are all good sources of authentic Cajun cooking.  There is a distinction between the Cajun and the Creole cultures of Louisiana, with the latter including many other cultures such as African, Native American, Italian, and Spanish along with the French base.  Generally, Creole cooking is city-cooking, more complex and sophisticated than the older French Cajun style.

The Trinity” of Cajun cooking – bell pepper, onion, and celery, can be used in almost everything.  Just chop it all up, and add to the base of soups, stews, roasts, sauces.  The proportions of the ingredients bring different flavors to each recipe.  Many kinds of hot and sweet peppers grow wild in Louisiana, and these were incorporated in the early years of the Acadians’ adaption to the area.  There are banana, bell, Tabasco, jalapeno, cayenne or finger-chilis, and birds-eye cherry peppers.  Most are used fresh, with black and white peppers usually used dried and ground, and also cayenne is used both ways.

A key to blending the seasonings is also in the longer cooking methods that are traditional to Cajun-style cuisine.  Often, part of the base-seasonings are “caramelized” and then the rest added much later, to refine the taste and add a fresh edge to the mix.

Cajun cooking relies upon the distinct seasonings and the endless variations allowed.  The creative cook can make anything delightful, as long as fresh ingredients and a mix of spices and herbs.  Along with the above-mentioned classics, sage, garlic and mustard are often included in traditional Cajun cookery. Note that the sassafras file powder, ground from young leaves of the tree, is a seasoning as well as a thickening agent.

Cajun cooking perhaps became most globally known in the late 1970’s as Paul Prudhomme came into fame, but Justin Wilson was also in the running, having written seven Cajun cookbooks around the same time and filmed cooking shows through the next three decades.  Everyone who enjoys good food, and/or grew up in Louisiana, is aware of the unique tastes of Cajun seasonings.

How Cooking Shows have Changed American Tastes

The culinary mindset of most middle class Americans in the 1950s leaned to easy and convenient foods that played to an avalanche of prepackaged, highly processed products. This was the era that led to individually wrapped cheese, Jello, Tang and the TV dinner. The food trends for busy families crept in with cans, jars and boxes.

America was, at this time barely aware of its own developing cuisine. Serious cooking meant French food and James Beard was the primary on air personality. Cooking was mostly a skill a girl was expected to learn from her mother. A young couple might receive a copy of The Joy of Cooking by Irma Rombauer, or The Betty Crocker Cookbook, but rarely would classics of gastronomy such as Larousse Gastronomique by Prosper Montagne be among the wedding presents.

In 1963, the French Chef produced by WGBH in Boston debuted and Julia Child’s dedication and enthusiasm for good food began to carve a niche with home cooks. She was not the first television chef, but with her unassuming character and well known warbly voice, became the most widely watched cooking show. French food went from an elitist cuisine, to an attainable level of skills.

Through Julia Child and James Beard, other cooking shows on both PBS and the major networks began to find a place on television and influence how we define cuisine. Most of these shows used outstanding personalities that were as amusing to watch as they were to demonstrate preparation and new recipes.

Notable among these was The Galloping Gourmet, Graham Kerr whose first show ran from 1969 to 1971. Kerr balanced lighthearted humor with a sensuous enjoyment of food. His show demonstrated a range of skills from how to use a paring knife, to deboning a chicken. Filmed before a live audience, Kerr would bring a volunteer from the spectators to enjoy the repast with him at the end of the show.

The Frugal Gourmet with Jeff Smith ran from 1988 to 1997 on PBS. Smith brought numerous world cuisines to American tables. His knowledge of cooking extended past generalities and for instance highlighted the differences in Italian cooking that characterizes a region, or even a town. Experimenting with ethnic cuisines became not only allowed, but a mark of advanced knowledge.

During this time, Americans began to demand access to wider cuisines, both in restaurants and at the grocer. Chains specializing in new food experiences such as Japanese, Chinese and Italian opened and fed a hunger for adventure. Larger groceries began to carry more exotic products once rarely seen outside of specialty stores, such as edamame, various pastas and hummus. Even periodicals that catered to expanding tastes opened and thrived, such as Food and Wine and Cooking Light magazine.

The Food Network launched in 1993 and soon experienced explosive growth. By 1997, it was named the fastest growing specialty network on cable. The Food Network was ideally positioned to fully explore cooking, wine and various cuisines. The shows range from daytime instructional programs to evening talk shows, travel specials and even competitions such as Emeril Live!,  Iron Chef. Chefs became more than known for cookbooks, but celebrities whose fame rival rock stars.

Cooking shows have now gone mainstream past the confines of cable and PBS. As we have evolved, so have they. Gordon Ramsay is undoubtedly the current reigning chef de cuisine of prime time TV. The multi Michelin starred chef first achieved stardom on British TV with Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares and Hell’s Kitchen, before coming to Fox TV in the United States. His shows stress his unwavering philosophy of fresh, well prepared dishes that range from standards like Beef Wellington to using locally available ingredients in a creative new dish.

Not everyone has the time, skill, or money to achieve haute cusine on a daily basis, but we all relate to the experience of cooking and sharing beloved dishes with friends and family.  We have expanded our tastes beyond ketchup, salt and pepper. Perhaps it could be said we have attained a better world view. While Americans still rely on a level of convenience during busy times, cooking shows have opened our eyes to a world bridged not in its differences but in the commonalities we share in food.

Alternatives to Alcohol Made with Wheat

Those who are diagnosed with Celiac Disease must confront a new lifestyle that involves a limited menu for both food and drink.  Adjusting to a gluten free lifestyle may be hard enough for fans of bread heavy meals, though there are gluten free alternatives.  There is an added difficulty for those who choose to imbibe on occasion.  Many alcoholic beverages are made with wheat, and/or barley, which are huge no-nos when confronting a gluten allergy.  There is hope though, as some drinks remain on the safe list, and there are plenty of alternatives for the rest.

Wine is safe in almost all cases.  Of course, it is always best to double check and make sure that the wine was not made using old barrels previously used to store beer.  So few commercially available wines fit into this category that there really is no need to even check.

Hard alcohol is also for the most part safe.  Something like Rye Whiskey is obviously an exception.  Look for alternatives like Vodka to use in mixed drinks, or, research specific types of Whiskey, as some of them remove gluten through the distillation process, making them safe.  The best bet is to just avoid Whiskey all together.

Beer is the category that takes the hardest hit.  Most beers are made with either wheat extract, barley extract, or the whole grains.  All of these contain gluten, and therefore cannot be consumed.  There is hope, though.  First, there are drinks like hard apple cider, which mimic beer in every way but the flavor.  Secondly, beer can be brewed with a wheat alternative, such as sorghum.  The problem with the sorghum based beers is that the taste typically is not all that great.  They tend to be weak, watery, and just a little off.  As is the case with most things in life, certain brands are better than others, and shopping around may lead to a positive result.  The last great beer alternative is to consume beer brewed with deglutenized barley.  This is exactly what it sounds like.  The huge upside is that everything about these beers is the same, except that there is no gluten.  The major downside is that the process is expensive, and the extra cost is passed on to the consumer.

Beer fans suffering from a wheat allergy should try to stay optimistic.  Gluten free products are relatively new in the grand scheme of things, and all products, alcoholic or otherwise, are being improved upon daily.  Sooner or later, a good gluten free beer will be available and cost effective.

How to Make Wheat Free Pizza

Anyone with an intolerance to gluten, also known as celiac disease, knows that even a small amount of this substance can cause serious and uncomfortable health problems. There are any number of things that need to be removed from a person’s diet if they suffer from this food allergy. Even things like pizza, since wheat flour is normally used to make the crust.

There are alternatives. It is possible to make a tasty pizza crust without using wheat flour. But, few people know the recipe. Here’s one that’s easy to make and tasty too.  Others can be found at, the online site for information and tips on how to live a better life with this food allergy,, and others.

2/3 cups brown rice flour

½  cups tapioca flour

½  ounce of dried, gluten free yeast (two packets)

2 tsps xanthan gum

1 tsp unflavored gelatin (ex, agar agar)

1 tsp dried oregano

½ teaspoon of salt

1 tsp olive oil

1 tsp vinegar

½ teaspoon sugar

2/3 cup warm water

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

2. Combine rice flour, tapioca flour, yeast, xanthan gum, gelatine, oregano, and salt in a mixing bowl until thoroughly mixed.

3. In another bowl combine the olive oil, vinegar, sugar, and water.

4. Make a depression in the middle of the dry ingredients. Pour the wet mixture into this depression, then beat all together by hand for 5-6 minutes. Dough will be soft and sticky.

5. Lightly oil a cutting board or baking sheet larger than 12 inches across each way. Put the dough on the sheet and knead the dough by hand into a circle about 12 inches across. Use some more of the rice flour sprinkled onto the surface to keep the dough from sticking as needed.

6. Make the edge all the way around slightly thicker than the rest of the area.  Remember you’re making a pizza!

7. Bake pizza crust on middle rack for 10 minutes, then remove from oven.

7. Top with tomato sauce, then grated cheese and your favorite toppings.

8. Place back in oven and bake for 20 minutes to a half hour, or until the crust is golden brown.

If followed correctly, this recipe will make a pizza crust that tastes just about the same as other pizzas. Makes one 12-inch pizza. Enjoy!

Fast Food Purchase with Food Stamps – Yes

In four states, Florida, Michigan, Arizona and California, recipients of food stamps are allowed to purchase fast food items. The main reason these states allow this is to help indigent people such as homeless, disabled and elderly (age 60 and over) people who have no means of providing warm food for themselves. Other states are starting to consider joining the band wagon. Oklahoma is one of them.

Food Stamp Purchase Guidelines

Food stamp purchase guidelines vary from state to state. Only food items can be purchased with food stamps. A current list of items states that do not allow fast food purchases that food stamp recipients can purchase are:  fruits, vegetables, meats, baked goods at grocery stores. Other items are non-alcoholic beverages, edible plants, herbs, organic produce and seeds for growing fruits and vegetables. More items are:  baby formula, goat’s milk, Pedialyte and Pediasure, meals prepared and delivered by meal delivery services (Meals on Wheels), meals prepared in soup kitchens and nutritional supplements (Boost, Ensure, Isomil and Sustacal). Other items listed are:  weight loss products (Slim Fast, Cambridge Diet and Nutrisystem), artificial sweeteners, distilled water, ice, cooking sprays and prepared sandwiches or salads that are not eaten in the store. (http//

Businesses that will accept the food stamps are grocery stores, convenience stores and farmer’s market vendors. Food stamps cannot be used in trade for non-food items, fast food, food sold in restaurants, edible food that can be eaten in grocery stores, tobacco, drugs or alcohol. (

Applying for Food Stamps

The USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is regulated by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) also called Department of Social Services (DSS) in some states. People who need to apply for the food stamps SNAP program, can apply in person, by mail or  on-line through the state DHHS website. They can also print an application which will require you to provide proof of your monthly income, personal information of the members of the household and a list of current owned assets. You will be given an EBT card or SNAP card if you qualify. (

The idea of using food stamps to pay for fast food in states that do not accept them intice people to find different ways to get around the restriction. In Missouri, Domino’s Pizza sells the pizzas made but have not been baked yet. Because the food is uncooked it does not break the federal regulation. (

Yum! Brands, out of Louisville, KY owner of restaurants which include:  Taco Bell, KFC, McDonald’s, Subway plus others is lobbying for inclusion in the fast-food food stamp program. The four states that do accept food stamps have websites listed on the Internet of which fast food restaurants already accept food stamps for meals. (

Why should poor people not be allowed to eat out with their families occassionally at a fast food restaurant?
